World Food Day Celebration in Kakamega: Uniting Under the Theme ‘WATER IS LIFE, WATER IS FOOD, LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND

The recently concluded World Food Day celebration held between 25th to 26th October 2023 in Kakamega carried the powerful theme, 'WATER IS LIFE, WATER IS FOOD, LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND,' underscoring the profound connection between water, sustenance, and the collective responsibility to ensure food security for all. Against the backdrop of this poignant theme, the event brought together a constellation of distinguished guests, including Principal Secretary State Department for Livestock Development Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Chief Representative of FAO Carla Mucavi, IFAD Country Director, Kenya Mariatu Kamara, and Governor of Kakamega County Fernandes Barasa, among others. These eminent figures converged to champion the cause of water resource management and its pivotal role in nourishing the world.

A striking feature of this event was the vibrant exhibition stand hosted by KeLCoP (Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project), aligning perfectly with the event's theme. KeLCoP's stand not only showcased innovative agricultural practices but also emphasized the essential link between water resources and food production. It highlighted the need to leave no one behind in the journey towards food security, especially in a world where access to clean and sufficient water is often unequal. Attendees were inspired to explore sustainable farming techniques that maximize the use of water resources, recognizing that 'WATER IS LIFE' and that it holds the key to ensuring no one goes hungry.

In Kakamega, the World Food Day celebration echoed a resounding message of unity and shared responsibility, encapsulated by the theme 'WATER IS LIFE, WATER IS FOOD, LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND.' It served as a poignant reminder that water is the lifeblood of agriculture, the foundation of food production, and the means by which we can extend a hand to those most vulnerable. The presence of esteemed guests and KeLCoP's enlightening exhibition bore witness to the collective commitment to a world where food and water are abundant, and where no one is left behind in the pursuit of sustenance and prosperity
